Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so awful that you can't help but smile. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer level of destruction and just gives up, opting for amusement as a coping defense.
But then, you realize that it's not really funny. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a groan.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You start ruminating about the meaning of it all. Was this intended to be funny?
Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Dreadful Day Ever

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
